Happy New Year: Gift Ideas-Day 18

Today we are taking a break from Christmas to skip ahead to New Year's. New Years is a bittersweet time of year-another year comes to a close and new resolutions are thought of for the approaching year. It offers reflection and a "new start" of sorts. For this I look forward to the holiday, but I've never been one to give any gift because of it, that is until now. The moment I saw this stamp I had to have it. I love typography and this stamp with its different texts and bubbly glass image is awesome. This is a brand new single stamp from Stampin' Up! It's called "A Brand New Year" and is part of their "Under $10" stamps. You'll find it and others in the Holiday Mini on page 31 and the Idea Book and Catalog on page 208. Unfortunately, this stamp is only available until January 4, 2010, so if you like it- buy it now!
For the gift featured today I simply took my favorite celebratory beverage and tied coordinating curly ribbon around it. You can make it even easier by purchasing a pre-made bunch at any party store. I found some metallic noise makers on clearance at my local party store and used one strand of ribbon to secure it to the bottle. The last step was to create and attach the tag.
  • First, I stamped the image using Versamark ink onto a piece of Whisper White card stock. (HINT: Versamark is a sticky pigment ink that allows embossing powder to adhere to it. Don't forget to go over the paper prior to stamping with your embossing buddy. This will insure the powder sticks to the image only and not anywhere else on your paper.)
  • Next, I sprinkled some black embossing powder onto the Versamark and set it with my heat tool. (I then trimmed it with my Paper Cutter.)
  • I repeated the above steps this time using gold embossing powder.
  • Paper snips allowed me to closely cut out the champagne glass and 'New Year' phrase.
  • The black image was adhered to a piece of Brushed Gold card stock using SNAIL adhesive.
  • The gold image was then layered onto the back image using a Stampin' Dimensional for a "pop."
  • My Crop-A-Dile created a hole in the corner and the tag was attached using one of the already present ribbons.
Embossing has to be my favorite technique. It is so fun and the look is classy-as you can see from this tag. This idea could be altered for any occasion: birthday, promotions, retirement, engagement, anything. Here's to the end of a great year and the anticipation of a wonderful New Year. Enjoy!
