Pretzel Hugs

Here is another really simple and cute idea for the holidays. And even better it is unbelievably yummy, but we'll get to that in a moment. This is another item (the jar) that I purchased from IKEA. It is the perfect size and the Join In The Cheer sizzlits decorative strip die fit perfectly around it. I punched the sentiment, which reads Peace&Joy&Love&Cheer from Stampin' Up!'s white Decor Elements sheets. That was it...so simple! The tag was added as an afterthought. I punched two scallop circles from Whisper White card stock and Riding Hood Red card stock (retired, sorry)  and adhered them with SNAIL adhesive. Then I applied a sentiment from the Merry & Bright rub-on pack (HINT: These come in 1 sheet each of silver and whisper white and are part of the Holiday Mini Catalog which are only available until January 4, 2010. So if you love them, I'd grab them ASAP). A hole was added with the Crop-A-Dile and attached with white embroidery floss. Old Olive 1-1/4" Striped Grosgrain Ribbon was tied to the handle to complete the look.

Here is a close-up of the Join In The Cheer Sizzlit decorative die. These really do allow you to create a professional looking project in minutes. I highly recommend these tools.

I know you're wondering what's inside this jar and what the heck is a "pretzel hug"? I really had no idea what I was going to put into these jars when I started making them. The other night I was flipping through my December Creating Keepsakes magazine and Lisa Bearnson was sharing a recipe she had gotten from Becky Higgins. Here's what you do:
  • On a foil lined cookie sheet- spread out the square butter pretzels. They look like a grid.
  • Place a Hershey's Hug onto each one.
  • Cook at 200 for 8 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and gently place an M&M on top.
  • Allow to harden.
I put the entire cookie sheet into the frig to help it along. They are delicious!
Right now with all the holiday candy available you can really make them festive looking. I used the red & white holiday peppermint Hugs and the holiday M&M's.

The only downfall is that they are very addicting, so I'd advise making them with a gift in mind-unless you have more self-control than I:)  I'd love to hear what Hugs and M&M combos you try. Enjoy!
