I Did It!! KWerner Color Challenge #57

Today I got to check a "like to", "hope to", "better do" off of my crafting wish list. I finally participated in one of Kristina Werner's Color Inspiration Challenges. I started following Kristina when she worked for Stampin' Up! She is incredibly talented and generous in her creative genius. She has since moved on from her design position at Stampin' Up!, but still amazes us with her visions and insight.
(Kristina and I at my first Stampin' Up convention)
She used to regularly hold Color Challenges where she would gather inspiration from a photo or a captured moment  in life and use the colors as her challenge to us to recreate it through those specific colors (more or less) into something crafty. I wanted to participate, but there was always an excuse as to why I couldn't. LAME-I was just afraid my project wouldn't be "good enough." There is HUGE talent that participates in these challenges! Life got busy for Kristina, she changed jobs, started creating for a big name craft supply site and had to stop the color challenges. But to my sheer delight, this is what I saw when I popped in on her blog this week:

So today I made myself sit down and do it. I only had an hour to complete the project, which I did, but hadn't blogged it yet-so I'm not sure it will be attached to Kristina's list, but hey, I completed it-no excuses! It took me an hour to do the card which sounds like a long time, but when I sat down I had no idea what I was going to do, only the colors I'd use, obviously. Here's what resulted from that hour.

I only used two stamp sets on this card: Cheep Talk and Good Friend. I am in love with both and was glad for a reason to pull them out again:)
  • I started with a standard sized card base (5 1/2" x 4 1/4") in textured So Saffron card stock.
  • Next, I stamped the background image in So Saffron ink to create a tone on tone image.
  • I stamped the flower in Riding Hood Red (retired), the bird in Baja Breeze (retired) the beak in More Mustard, the legs and "hello there!" in Close to Cocoa on Whisper White card stock and cut them out with my Paper Snips. (HINT: One of the legs didn't stamp clearly, so I pulled out my Close to Cocoa marker and filled it in. You'd never know. That's what's so great about our products EVERYTHING matches and coordinates.)
  • The wing was stamped directly onto textured Cameo Coral card stock and cut out. It is adhered to the bird with a Stampin' Dimensional to add some depth.
  • Next, I took a 3 1/2" x 4" piece of Whisper White card stock and rounded the corners on one side with a 3/16"corner rounder and used my Spiral punch on the other.
  • The beak and legs were adhered directly to the Whisper White layer using my 2-Way Glue Pen.  The bird and "hello there!" sentiment were popped up with Stampin' Dimensionals. (HINT: Before I placed any of my images with Stampin' Dimensionals permanently, I stamped the "friend" sentiment at the bottom in Basic Brown ink. This is especially important because after they were on it would have been next to impossible to use my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig and get the word exactly where I wanted it.)
  • I placed a two layers of Stampin' Dimensionals onto the flower so that it would have enough height to be above the bird layer. Before adhering it I tied some linen thread through a white Button Latte Designer button and placed it on top of the flower with a mini glue dot.
  • After placing the raised images, I used our BRAND SPANKING NEW  Scallop Trim Border punch from the Sale-A-Bration catalog to punch a 1" x 3 1/2" piece of Baja Breeze textured card stock and adhered it to the edge of the Whisper White layer with SNAIL Adhesive. (IMPORTANT: The Scallop Trim Border is free with any $50 order during Sale-A-Bration. This is the only way to get this EXCLUSIVE punch. Want a free Sale-A-Bration catalog? E-mail me and I'll get one to you.
  • The layer was finally adhered t the card front with some Stampin Dimensionals. This card has a whole lotta "lift" to it:)
