A Wing and A Friend

Good Morning! Well the rain has let up for a bit here in So. Cal, but the second of three storms is expected by this afternoon. So what do you do with all this gloom hanging around? Bring the color to you through Stampin' Up!'s In Colors. Each Year Stampin' Up! introduces 6 new colors for the year. This year they have outdone themselves. Not only are the colors amazing, but for the first time they have offered coordinating 1/2" Polka-Dot Grosgrain Ribbon AND Stampin' Write Markers in these colors. It really is a no-brainer to coordinate everything perfectly! The colors really are incredibly vibrant.
For this card I started with an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of Rich Razzleberry textured card stock. I wanted an upright card so I cut it to 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". Next I cut a piece of Whisper White card stock. I started by lightly sponging the background in Bordering Blue. I took the largest stamp in the Wings of Friendship* stamp set and used my Bermuda Bay, Soft Suede and Gable Green Stampin' Write Markers to color in the bird, branch and leaves. (HINT: When using multiple inks/markers on an image don't forget to breathe "huff" on the image just before stamping it to remoisten the "older" inks.) I did the flowers separately next using the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig for placement. These were inked with my Melon Mambo and Dusty Durango markers. I used the "stamping off" technique to make the image softer-I simply stamped it first onto scratch paper and then stamped it directly to the Whisper White piece. I did the same technique on the flourishes in the corners using my Gable Green ink pad.
*Wings of Friendship is a Level 2 hostess set and is not available for purchase. You can get this stamp as a reward for a qualifying Stampin' Up! workshop.
I stamped the hibiscus image a second time onto Dusty Durango card stock using the same ink. This image was cut out with my Paper Snips and adhered with a Stampin' Dimensional. The sentiment was stamped in Basic Black ink. Don't you just love the typography of the word 'friendship' in this image? The completed Whisper White piece was adhered with SNAIL adhesive to a piece of Kraft card stock that had been punched with the Scallop Border Punch along the bottom. The addition of some 1/2" Bermuda Bay polka-Dot Ribbon was tied around the bottom and held in place with a Mini Glue Dot. More Stampin' Dimensionals completed the card by adding depth as it was placed onto the textured Rich Razzleberry base.
