Going Fishing-A Boyish Birthday Card

Yesterday I shared the cards I made for the girls in my church class. Today's card is for the boys' birthdays.  They LOVE Goldfish crackers (we're talking 1-1/2-2 year olds), so this was the perfect treat for them. Aren't the goldfish images simply adorable as well?!

I started with a Whisper White base. Next I adhered a piece of retired Designer Series Paper to the bottom with SNAIL Adhesive. I then rounded the corners with the 3/16" Corner Rounder Punch. I used a 3" x 3" piece of Not Quite Navy card stock and punched a circle through it with the 1-3/4" Circle Punch. (HINT: This punch is the exact size needed for the Sweet Treat Cups.) The Sweet Treat Cup was filled with the Goldfish crackers and slipped through the Not Quite Navy card stock. (FYI: Sweet Treat Cups come in sets of 12.) I removed the self adhesive on the back of the cup and adhered it directly to the Whisper White base. Then I took a 5-3/4" x 2-1/2" piece of Bordering Blue card stock and began shading it. I used Sponge Daubers and applied Not Quite Navy Classic ink in a circular motion. To recreate the "wave" effect, I took my 1/2" Circle Punch and made half punches along the edge. I used the 1-3/4" Circle Punch again to punch a half circle along the wave edge so that it would fit snug against the Sweet Treat Cup. This layer was attached with SNAIL Adhesive as well. The fish were stamped in More Mustard Classic ink onto Whisper White card stock and cut out with Paper Snips. (HINT: Like I mentioned yesterday, Paper Snips allow you to make intricate cuts with ease. They really are a great tool.) The fish were popped up with Stampin' Dimensionals.

A piece of Pumpkin Pie 1/2" Striped Grosgrain Ribbon, tied vertically, and the sentiment from the set Something Sweet (stamped in Basic Brown ink) were the perfect finishing touches to the card. I'm always struggling for masculine/boyish cards so I hope this offers some inspiration for you. I'd love to see what you come up with.
  • The Something Sweet stamp set and Sweet Treat Cups are featured in the Occasions Mini Catalog on sale right now. Don't have a copy? Shoot me an e-mail and I'll be happy to get one in the mail for you!
I'll be gone tomorrow for my sister's wedding but I have one more birthday card to share with you using the Sweet Treat Cups, so make sure to stop by Saturday to get the details.  Until next time...
