HSS Theme Challenge #100-Pleats or Ruffles

Good Morning Stampers! This week at Hand Stamped Sentiments we have a fun theme challenge for you to try...

Hopefully you are recovered from the whirlwind that the holidays brings, and are ready to start creating again. I've had a whirlwind last 3 months with a new job, but things have settled down and I am so excited to be back participating in the HSS challenges.

For this weeks card I used brand new products that I earned for FREE from Sale-A-Bration (SAB). This is our yearly sale where for every $50 you spend you earn free product. Keep an eye out as it begins January 24 and runs through March 31.

I started with a Very Vanilla base and cut strips of Designer Series Paper from the Everyday Enchantment pack (SAB), and Soft Suede. This is the most gorgeous paper pack I have seen from SU. You will definitely want it!

I got my inspiration from Amy Sheffer. She does some cute quilting like cards and I wanted to use that idea. I ran the Soft Suede strips through the Big Shot with the Embossing Folder. The last strip was also run through with the BRAND NEW Edgelits Dies to create the scallop. I added faux stitching with a gel pen around the edges.

To create the focal point, I stamped the frame image in Soft Suede from the Elementary Elegance set (also part of SAB). I then stamped it again in Poppy Parade and punched the top and bottom with the small oval punch. These were adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals. "Hello" was stamped in Pool Party. This was layered onto Soft Suede and placed on the card front with more dimensionals.

The final touch was the addition of our NEW pleated satin ribbon in Riding Hood Red. I tied the side with Linen Thread and placed a Everyday Enchantment Brad (SAB) over it.

HSS Inspiration Challenge #90

Don't you just love the Inspiration Challenge picture at Hand Stamped Sentiments this week? Ok so I know this picture evokes all sorts of Thanksgiving thoughts, but gosh darnit, I LOVE Halloween, so I am posting my FAVORITE Halloween card. Now, I know you're thinking that this isn't even a current stamp set, but I was recently going through my card and came across it. This was one of the cards I made at my very first workshop I held. It's still a favorite, which might explain why I have it 4 years later. And it does have some of the colors from the Inspiration picture, right?

We've had a busy week/weekend this past week and 1/2. I started a new job, and the baby turned 1. I have some great pictures to post from the party. He was adorable in all his "monster" glory! Stay tuned for those and some other projects I've been working on...

HSS Technique Challenge #89-Crayons?

This week at Hand Stamped Sentiments you have a choice: you can create a project using shaving cream, crayons or pastels. Ok, before you start asking why I posted my son's "art" let me assure you I made this masterpiece, obviously that term is used lightly.

Earlier I was talking with Dawn Braun of Dabble with Dawn, (you might be seeing more of her HERE in the very near future, hint, hint) about our ~~obsession~~ fondness of Pinterest. She was asking me if I had seen the crayon art people were doing with melted crayons. I hadn't and thought it sounded odd, but then I saw it and it was so COOL! So Dawn thank you, the ones on Pinterest are 100% better but it was fun trying.

I started by choosing my crayons. Yep I just scavenged through my kids cheapy crayons picking out the oranges, greens, yellows and browns. I used a piece of left over cardboard, you know the ones that come in your DSP packs, and placed a piece of sticky strip to it to hold the crayons.

I placed the crayons in the order I wanted them in and used temporary adhesive to secure the paper down just under them. (Place it further under than I did. As the crayons melted the obviously shorten up and started to run under the paper instead of on top.)

Then I simply used my Heat Tool (or blow dryer) to heat them up. This was after a while and they came off the sticky strip. I did have to hold the cardboard up at an angle to force the wax to travel down.

OK, so not the most gorgeous work of art, but it was seriously fun! I added some flowers from the Boho Blossom punch and glitter brads to the centers, I mean why not go all out and take the hideousness to the max, right?

This WAS my inspiration, so much better...

HSS Think Pink Challenge #88

This week at Hand Stamped Sentiments we have PINK on the brain. Did you know October is Breast Cancer Awareness month? This is such an important cause to be aware of and making sure you have early screening is crucial! So here's to thinking pink this month...

For this weeks card I didn't want to make it too literal for the breast cancer awareness so instead I stuck with the pink color palette, but did a more generic card. I started with a Pink Pirouette base, layered a Rose Red on top and a Blushing Bride on top of that. The flourish (from the Baroque Motif set) was stamped in Rose Red ink and then (with the help of my Stamp-A-Ma Jig, I was able to stamp the image again in Versa Mark and emboss it with Clear Embossing powder.) It wasn't perfect, but I liked that even more because it left a faint shadow outside the original Rose Red image. The Lighthearted sentiment was also stamped in Rose Red ink. (I LOVE this set-it's in the Holiday Mini).

A Rose Red grosgrain ribbon was layered on top of a Whisper White Satin Ribbon and added to separate the two images. The final touch was the addition of a Rose Red scored "flower" to which I added a Blushing Bride blossom from the Boho Blossom punch with an Antique Brad attached.

I was really happy how it turned out. I have been a bit timid in trying this technique, but now that I know how easy it is, I am hooked! (HINT: To keep the flower in place, punch a circle out of card stock and apply Sticky Strip or hot glue, and attach the flower to it. It will also make attaching it to your card so much easier).

HSS Color Challenge #87

I am LOVING MY Digital Studio as of late. I have made quite a few things on it. I have a gorgeous shower invite to share later this week, I just can't yet as the shower is a surprise and I don't want to risk the bride seeing it:) Here is a card I made for the Hand Stamped Sentiments Challenge this week. HSS Halloween Theme Challenge #86

This week at Hand Stamped Sentiments we are encouraging you to get your spook on! Halloween is my FAVORITE holiday! So I am so excited to kick it off early with this challenge.

But first, we have a walker! This little guy just turned 11 months and is in full swing-covering all the ground at our house. People without kids probably think we're a little weird. You'd think that the Superbowl was on or something with the amount of cheering we do for his steps:) He is my earliest walker so it's been exciting to see the difference between the boys and their milestones.

Now for the details of this weeks project. I created this fun Halloween invite for my neighbors and good friends April and Al. They have THE Halloween party to be at, and I was honored (and a bit giddy) when April asked me to design this years invite. I gathered my inspiration from the latest issue of Stampin' Success.

This hybrid card was initially created on My Digital Studio using the Frightful Sight DSP and Scaredy Cat Stamp Brush Set. After they were printed I added a strip of Elegant Eggplant that I punched with the 1" square punch to create a banner effect. I also used the 1-1/4" circle punch out of Whisper White card stock and embossed the large spider with Versa Mark and black embossing powder. This was added with a Stampin' Dimensional for added height.

HSS Technique Challenge #85-Impress Us!

Good Morning! This weeks Hand Stamped Sentiments challenge is all about embossing. The designers have some incredible projects to show off, so make sure to take a peek at their projects.

We moved into our neighborhood almost a year ago. And within that year 4 babies have been born with another due in January, 2- turned 1 year, 5- turned 4 years, etc. Out of 13 homes in our cul-de-sac 10 have kids-ALL of which are 13 and younger. Needless to say we've had A LOT of birthdays and babies this year. I wanted to share a card I made for one of the new baby boys on our block.

I started with a Marina Mist base and added an embossed Whisper White piece. Embossing always adds an instant WOW! To the side I placed a Wild Wasabi Patterned Stack piece and used my Circle cutter to add the Bashful Blue Patterned Stack piece. The adorable image and sentiment are from the Baby Steps set that has since retired. This was stamped in Marina Mist ink. The heart was punched from Riding Hood Red card stock with the Heart to Heart punch and covered with Crystal Effects for some added shine. The sentiment was stamped onto a thin strip of WW, and I actually used the 3/4" square punch to create the banner ends, so cool. Coordinating gingham and taffeta ribbon were added to finish the card off.

HSS Fall Theme Challenge #84

Can you believe the first week of Fall is almost over? Here in So. Cal we did get a break from the heat, in fact we had brief showers on Saturday, but now it's back to the heat. Well in hopes of some cooler weather, the challenge this week at Hand Stamped Sentiments is to create something with a Fall theme.

I started with a More Mustard base and ran it through the Big Shot with the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder. Next I added a distressed piece of Spice Cake Designer Series Paper (I am LOVING this paper!) Soft Suede was scallop edge punched and layered on top with a piece of Very Vanilla added to the top. The leaves were stamped in Pool Party, More Mustard and Soft Suede onto their coordinating card stock color and cut out. These were adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals for added depth.

The saying (and leaf images) are from the Falling Leaves set. Isn't it perfect for the Fall holidays? The sentiment was stamped in Soft Suede. And to finish it off a piece of Baja Breeze seam binding was tied in a bow around the bottom.

HSS Clean & Simple Challenge #83 and Family Room Reveal

This weeks card is super easy and simple, just like the challenge over at Hand Stamped Sentiments.

Before I get into the details of the card, I wanted to post pictures of the completed Family Room. Here is a reminder of the before. I had painted the trim at this point but nothing inside.

And here's the color I had in there before. It was pretty, but too blue. I know its hard to see here, trust me! (Notice the diaper and wipes on the ledge, how appropriate. That's my life nowadays:)

And here is the finished wall unit. The baskets are just from Target. About $10 cheaper than the identical ones at Cost Plus. I simply went to JoAnns and bought felt which I cut to size and glue gunned to the bottoms for less wear and tear on the newly painted shelves.

And a better view of the new paint color. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Refined Aqua by Sherwin Williams. My friend Arlene has her entire downstairs done in this. GORGEOUS!

The new room color and completed wall unit are awesome! Now for some crown molding and casing in of the entry way and this room will be 97% complete.

Now for my card...

I got the inspiration for this layout from Cristina of My Paper Secret. I started with a Whisper White base and stamped the dots image from Best Friends Forever in Calypso Coral, Lucky Limeade and Pool Party. I then added the leaves from the Little Leaves Sizzlit which I punched out with my Big Shot. The sentiment was added using two different stamp sets and an Early Espresso Marker. Basic Rhinestones were added for a little bling, Linen Thread was used to frame below the sentiment and finally I rounded the bottom corners to finish it off. Super quick. Sometimes you just need a card like this. We forget that "less [truly] is more." Stop by and see what clean and simple projects the rest of the design team has created.

HSS Monochromatic Challenge #82

Today at Hand Stamped Sentiments we are asking you to stay close minded, to color that is. It is our monochromatic challenge. I saw this layout by Mary Fish and loved it. I had a lot of fun creating this card. I really like the different hues and tones of the various blues and how they complement each other. I simply used Island Indigo and Pool Party card Stock (with a little Naturals White to add some contrast). The ink is Island Indigo as well. I actually used the "stamp off" effect to make the images appear softer. A Fun Flower die and ruffled Island Indigo ribbon completed the look along with a designer button and linen thread. My favorite thing is the added sparkle. That's our new Dazzling Details, available Sept. 1... LOVE it!!

And where did I create above shown card? Why on my newly completed craft table! Woo Hoo! My husband has been busy. Isn't it so pretty?! {sigh}. It took a lot longer than planned but it's done. He built it and I painted, sanded, stained it. You can get the details here. It's a Pottery Barn knock-off, minus about $1,000. Here it is without the drawer pulls.

Here is a basket I bought to see how I liked it. I do, so I'll be getting more of these from Target:)

I had originally ordered 12" pulls from Lowes for $27.00, they were a special order so they haven't come in. But this weekend we were at Ikea and found identical pulls for $7.99. That's $7.99 for 2! SOLD! I immediately came home and installed them. Perfect.

Guess what I received in the mail yesterday?

My five year pin from Stampin' Up! I can't believe how fast that time has flown. I LOVE working for a company that allows me to grow creatively and share that fun with others. I have met so many wonderful friends through this company and attended some incredible events. I am so grateful each and every day to have found this creative outlet and a genuinely well rounded and passionate company. HSS Banner Bash #81

This weeks challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments is a popular one. Banners are the "in" thing right now and are popping up everywhere! I had so much fun creating my project for this week.

But first, a little love shout out to this guy. I missed last month and didn't want to do that again. Yesterday was the big 1-0, months that is. He is already standing by himself. None of mine have ever done this so early. We are in big trouble at our house.

And speaking of house, I have promised pictures (more like proof that I'm really doing what I say I'm doing), of the projects we are doing. It's been a wild week of renting cranes, yes cranes, to put up palm trees in the front yard and inside I am almost done painting the entertainment center. I am pooped out, but it will look amazing when its done. My husband Brian built this-he is really good! And I got to paint it, not so good:(

The top was a breeze, it was the bottom and these nine compartments that about did me in! Also, I want to repaint the surrounding walls. The color I picked is too bright for my liking, so I get to prime it and repaint. It will look good when it's done. I just have to keep the "big" picture in my mind. That's what I get for rushing into a color choice.

Now onto craftier topics. Wouldn't you love to open the mail and receive this? I thought it turned out fun and bright. Since it's pretty easy to figure out I will just list the materials below. HSS All Stitched Up Challenge #80

Yesterday I sent my oldest off to first grade. The first day was a HUGE success. The things he was most excited about? He gets his own desk (no sharing a table) and he has his own dictionary. Gotta love that kid!

This week at Hand Stamped Sentiments we are in stitches... faux or actual stitches that is. I went with my favorite- faux stitching. I used the set Warmest of Wishes which is a hostess set in the upcoming holiday mini catalog. Best of all, I got it for FREE! That's right FREE, at convention. It is an adorable set. That's just one of the perks to joining SU!

I started with a Crumb Cake base, added designer paper from the In-Color Patterns Series Paper Stack in Peach Parfait. I used the Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker with the paper piercing tool and mat pack to apply the stitching. The Scallop Circle punch was used with black DSP and dots were added with a white gel pen. Old Olive striped grosgrain ribbon was added for a bold accent.

Isn't this guy adorable? I stamped him in Soft Suede and then stamped him onto Pumpkin Pie card stock. One of the NEW products we have in the Holiday Mini Catalog is Dazzling Details, similar to a glitter glue. I added it to the mask and treat bag of the owl, but didn't get the best angle. It REALLY sparkles in person.

The final touch was to add this sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes in Elegant Eggplant on Whisper White. I punched it with the Word Window punch and added Basic Rhinestones for some bling. Stop by this week and join us for some stitches and fun at HSS.

HSS School Theme Challenge # 79

I am really behind on my scrap booking. My husband just finished building an island for me for my scrap room and has almost completed the assembly. The painting was painful! I will have pics up soon. I really hope its completed by the end of the week. The reason I bring this up is because at Hand Stamped Sentiments this week we are presenting a Back to School theme challenge. (WOOHOO, its next Monday for us!) Anyway I was able to create a scrapbook page using MDS. Most of my sons' things, I photograph and create a book at the end of each year for them, unless it's something like a handprint or report card, etc. So I wanted to share a page that will eventually make it into his kinder book. He came home during the last week of school with his "journal." Now this was a pretty bulky book. I went through and found some noteworthy entries and photographed them. This was my husband and my favorite! This is a great way to preserve the writing, but keep the bulky journal type books to a minimum.

The irony is that neither my husband or I have "smart phones" that he can play this on. It must have made an impression somewhere on him. Come join us this week and get caught up or a head start on some of those adorable school pictures, or cards:)

HSS Fancy Fold Challenge #78

Welcome to a new challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments this week. I was quite excited about today's card. Not only was it a new card style I'd never seen before, but it was unbelievably simple to put together. And with three little grommets running around, THAT is essential.

For my card I chose to use the side step style. I really like how it turned out and I found a great (and EASY) tutorial on it at Splitcoast Stampers. Isn't it neat?! I started with a base of Baja Breeze and used Bashful Blue Patterns Designer Series Paper for the background. I added torn strips of Sahara Sand to mimic the look of sand. I used my color spritzer and Crumb Cake marker to spritz them. I really like how the spritzing gives it a more realistic look. The sun was created with the 1-1/4" Circle Punch from Textured Daffodil Delight card stock. I spritzed this as well but with a Tangerine Tango marker. The rays were created by snipping the buds from the middle sized flower from the Boho Blossoms punch and attaching them to the back. This was adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals to add height and well..dimension.

The pail was stamped in Rich Razzleberry. The surfboards were embossed with Melon Mambo, Tangerine Tango and Wild Wasabi Embossing Powders. The sentiment was stamped in Pacific Point from the Flight of the Butterfly set. And the accents on the top step were stamped in Calypso Coral, Island Indigo and River Rock. HSS Flourish Forever Theme Challenge #77

Welcome Stampers and Crafters alike. This week at Hand Stamped Sentiments we are celebrating the flourish. Create ANYTHING with a flourish image on it to enter.

I chose to do a card and it was one of the rare times that I was giddy afterward with the results. Don't you just LOVE when that happens? I REALLY like how it turned out! Here's how I did it:

I started with a Whisper White base and ran it through the Big Shot with the Vintage Wallpaper Embossing Folder. (TIP: Make sure you use the side that will give you the negative imprint, so that the indent will remain white after you brayer it.) Next, I took my Brayer and inked it up with Pear Pizazz and gently rolled it over the card front repeatedly. Then I added a piece of Daffodil Delight Designer Series Paper fro the Patterned Paper Stack. This is a must for coordinating with your card stock. 2 pieces of Daffodil Delight Taffeta Ribbon were tied around the card front.

Here's a close up of the focal piece and how I created this:

I started with a piece of Whisper White card stock and began by scoring it every 1/2" with my bone folder horizontally and vertically to achieve a tile look. Next I stamped the flourish design from the Baroque Motifs set in Marina Mist ink onto it. (TIP: Don't worry if t gets into the cracks, a little white gel pen will cover those flaws.) I then stamped the flower image, from the same set, in Daffodil Delight ink. Basic Pearls were placed in the center of these.

This was layered onto a piece of Marina Mist card stock and placed with Stampin' Dimensionals onto the card front.

For the sentiment I punched a piece of Daffodil Delight card stock with the Extra Large Oval Punch and layered a Whisper White piece, punched with the Small Oval Punch, on top. The sentiment was stamped in Soft Suede and is from the Hodgepodge Happiness set. Two more basic Pearls were added for the finishing touch. This was adhered with two layers of Stampin' Dimensionals to make it higher than the flourish layer. HSS Summer Fun Theme Challenge #76

Summer is definitely upon us! It is a toasty 90+ degrees here in California. Luckily we haven't had to turn the air on too much this summer. Lots of time in the pool, that's for sure.

I was asked to create a kids birthday card for this weeks challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments. I started with a Pumpkin Pie base and layered a piece of Rose Red paper from the Patterned Designer Series Paper Stack. The images were stamped in Basic Black ink onto Whisper White card stock and colored in with Stampin' Write Markers. This was layered onto a piece of Old Olive card stock. I added a strip of Old Olive along the bottom as well and tied a piece of the dotted ribbon from the retired Elementary Ribbon pack around the front. I really love this ribbon and was so sad when it was retired, (NOTE: I just saw that it is in the Clearance Rack at SU, so if you LOVE it, hurry and grab it here.) Finally the sentiment was added to a piece of Tempting Turquoise and punched out with the My Way punch, also retired:(

Hello from SLC!

Hello from Convention! Erin and I are having an INCREDIBLE time. There is so much to see and do. And being sans kids for 5 days isn't too shabby either.

I wanted to share some pictures with you, I know many of my friends who didn't get to come made me promise to, so here you go:)

Here's a picture of Main Stage. The theme this year is GROW, so many of the pictures/samples have to do with this concept.

I had to include these of Erin and I goofing off.

HSS Good Day Sunshine Challenge #75

Good Morning! I am writing this as I sit in the airport ready to take off for Salt Lake City, for CONVENTION! YEE HAW!! First, let's take a peek at the newest challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments.

I was so excited at how this card turned out. I had a vision for the sun and wasn't sure how it would turn out. My friend Kim, who is UBER talented, made a sun with yellow tulle coming out of it. So I immediately thought of the Daffodil Delight Ribbon.

I saw a card by Elaine Uhl and loved how she had the Sunny Fun images peeking through.

I started with a Whisper White base and sponged the top half using paper cut in a scalloped shape to create the cloud illusion. I used Pool Party and Island Indigo to do this. I added a strip of Pool Party Designer Series Paper Pack to the bottom and punched a strip of Island Indigo with my Scalloped Edge Border Punch to add to the top. Next I used my 1-3/4" circle punch to create the "window". And the final touch was to layer Whisper White Satin Ribbon with Island Indigo Ruffled Ribbon and tie it around the front.

I then used my Stampin' Write Markers to color in the images I stamped on the inside.

The sun was created by punching a piece of textured Daffodil Delight with the 1-3/8" circle punch and after running sticky strip on the back, I looped the Daffodil Delight Ribbon around the circle. I placed another 1-3/8" circle punch on the back to keep it in place and adhered it with Stampin' Dimensionals.

HSS #74 Button Challenge

This week at Hand Stamped Sentiments we are focusing on embellishments... buttons, and lots of them.

For my card I kept it simple. Sometimes you just need that, right? I started with a Night of Navy base. I stamped the floral images from a retired set onto Whisper White in Night of Navy ink. I then added buttons to the center of each flower. Next, I added a layered piece of Night of Navy, Old Olive, and Whisper White. I then stamped the sentiment in and used my Stampin' Write Markers to color it in. For the final touch I added brads to the centers of the flowers and a Night of Navy bow to the top.

It's Party Time!

THE NEW 2011-2012 IDEA BOOK and CATALOG IS HERE.

This year I am holding a Catalog Kick-Off Bash. It is going to be lots of fun!

This AMAZING event is being held on Friday July 8th from 6-9PM. The evening will start off with a light dinner and some yummy treats. You will have the opportunity to get crafty with make-n-take projects and be sure to bring your camera as there will be display boards here with lots of great projects for additional inspiration. There will be a Chinese Auction that will give you the chance to win some FREE retired items from me.

Never heard of a Chinese Auction? Here's how it works: Each person will receive tickets as they check into the event and those tickets will assist you in winning free items. Each item up for auction will have a bag in front of it, and if you want that item you place a ticket in the bag. Then at 8:30 the auction closes and we draw for the winners of all the items.

What kind of items will be in the auction, you ask? There will be everything from stamp sets, embellishment items, tools, storage items, Designer Paper packs, Simply Scrappin' Kits, Card Kits, Card packs, ribbon, and punches.

So How Do YOU Get Tickets? You will be able to buy tickets for .25 each OR you can earn them for FREE in a bunch of different ways...

Lots to Celebrate and an Announcement

Lots to celebrate around here this past week.

This guy finished his first year of school. Woothoot! Kinder down, 12 more grades to go...

We were so lucky to have THE BEST teacher this year. Yay- Mrs. Gray! That made all the difference. Here they are on the last day.

Carson turned 8 months. Seriously?! Time is flying. He is a mad crawler now and is even attempting to stand up. Watch out, here he comes!

And on a stamping note, I was honored by two fabulous designers, Genny Valdes from Stampin' with Genny and Erin Gonzales from Hand Stamped Style with the Stylish Blog Award. What an honor, especially coming from these two talented ladies.

So now I get the honor of displaying this on my page. Thank you ladies!

And if that wasn't enough, I was notified by Tiffany Bauer of My Crafty World that she is featuring my 4th of July project as one of her "crafty picks" on July 3rd. It had been "one of those days", kids weren't listening, misbehaving and I was drained to say the least. Her email was just the thing I needed to refocus and breathe:) What a nice surprise! HSS So Charming Challenge #73 and another sneak peek

This weeks challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments is a real charmer:

Today's card was definitely a challenge. I realized early on that I didn't have ANY charms in my stash, can you believe that? Add to that having this little guy crawling everywhere and wanting constant attention, it's a miracle I completed the card.

We are 8 months now, very mobile and having some extreme attachment issues, this stage is always oh so fun! Anyway, now on to today's card...

I started by stamping images from the NEW Delicate Doilies set onto Rich Razzleberry ink onto Rich Razzleberry card stock. This is a BRAND NEW set available this week July 1st. This new Idea Book and Catalog is packed with some incredible new products and it's where I go the inspiration for today's card. There is a TON of good stuff in there!

Next, I stamped the branch image from the Easter Blossoms set in Crumb Cake ink onto a piece of Very Vanilla CS. The crown is from the Extreme Elements set and the phrase is from the Hodgepodge Happiness set. Both were stamped in Rich Razzleberry ink. This was layered onto Soft Suede CS and finally onto Crumb Cake CS that had been punched with the Dotted Ribbon Border Punch.

Two silver brads were added to the left side and a piece of Certainly Celery 5/8" Satin Ribbon was wrapped around the card. Te final accent was the addition of my homemade charm using materials from the Pretties Kit. This item has retired but I am so glad I hung onto it now!:)

HSS Theme Challenge #72-Stars & Stripes

Happy first day of Summer! With the 4th holiday approaching quickly, we are presenting a patriotic challenge this week at Hand Stamped Sentiments.

This weeks only criteria was to create a 3D project. I was surprised that this idea came to me so quickly. That rarely happens right?

I started with the Petal Cone Die in Night of Navy. I also cut it out in Real Red and Whisper White card stock. These last two I ran an additional time through the Big Shot using the Square Lattice embossing folder. I alternated adhering them onto the sides of the original cone.

I also cut out the additional scallop half circles (included in the die) and adhered them to the bottom of the flaps. The sentiment was printed out from the computer and attached to the label included with the die too.

The final step was to create the "filling" for the cone. I used the star punch and Seeing Stars set. The gold and silver stars were embossed with the Perfect Polka Dot embossing folder. To make the swirls, I cut a 1/4" strip of card stock, ran it through the crimper and used my finger to shape it by curling it at a diagonal. These were adhered with mini glue dots and attached to skewers.

I really like how they turned out. BTW, Target has the tins I used to make last years July 4th craft (seen here). If you have a 4th of July project you've made, we'd love to see it at Hand Stamped Sentiments this week.

A Dino-riffic Birthday

I made cake balls and even tried my hand at royal icing, on rice crispy "pops", after seeing how good the cookies turned out. So much harder than I thought.

Baseball is over! It was a lot of fun, but also a lot of commitment. I am really enjoying the break from games and practices. Next year we'll have two in it, yikes! I was co-team mom this year which was a lot of fun. We had a great team and really good parents. That always helps. I was in charge of the goody bags for the end of the season party. Our team was the Washington Nationals. I recreated the teams pennant and attached them to the bags.

I personalized each boys bag with the help from the Big Shot. LOVE that machine.

Here is a close up of Braden's. I started with the pennant die and trimmed it a bit to make to more narrow. I printed the teams logo onto labels and trimmed them before attaching them to the top. The final touch was to cut out the boys names using the die.

Here is the card I made for the two head coaches. I cased the idea from Christine Gaydos and changed the colors to fit our team.

I made these smaller versions for the dad's (assistant coaches) that helped out with the practices and games each week.

Each player, coach and assistant coach also got a baseball cookie. An no, I didn't make them, I wish I had had enough time to though. Tomorrow you'll see why I was so busy...until then, enjoy!

HSS "I Do" Wedding Theme Challenge #71 and Sneek Peek #1

Can you believe next Tuesday is the start of summer? Well with graduation season coming to a close Hand Stamped Sentiments is onto the next big summer events...weddings.

I got this card idea from a shower invite that was for a girl I used to babysit. I think I started watching her and her sisters when she was three and now she's getting married! That really ages you. Her invite was adorable so I wanted to replicate it. I was really happy with how it turned out. I used the name of another friend whos getting married this summer, so excited for her and the happiness she's found. Now, if you know Kelley, don't get upset that you didn't receive this invite, it is a complete mock, I just used her as my muse:)

I started with a 5x7 piece of Pink Pirouette card stock and ran it through the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder. (I just matched it up and ran it through twice to cover the entire area.) Next I ran my brayer, covered with Whisper White Craft ink, over the raised image. I printed my "invite" onto Vellum card stock and cut it into the dress shape. The final touch was to wrap two pieces of organza ribbon to form the corset and adhere it to the pink card stock.

For the favor, I cut Pretty in Pink card stock using the Petal Cone die. I used The NEW Flirtatious DSP for the scallop flaps. This is BRAND NEW and will be available on July 1 in the NEW Idea Book and Catalog. The organza ribbon from the invite was brought back to form a handle and to tie the top of the favor bag inside. Finally, for the flower accent I used the Fun Flowers die to create the 2 larger blooms and the 5 petal punch for the Peach Parfait flower. The Blossom Petals Builder punch was used with Pear Pizazz card stock to create the two leaves. I simply ran my bone folder at angles to give them some instant "veins". A large pearl from the old Pretties Kit was adhered to the top.

HSS Masculine Theme Challenge #70

I have to admit that I struggle a bit when it comes to masculine cards, so I was a bit apprehensive when I saw this weeks challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments...

Last week I met with some incredibly talented fellow demos and one of the cards we made was this one that was perfect for the challenge. Aren't the clouds neat? I have seen this accent so many times and thought it was too intimidating to try, but it was so easy and MADE the card. I am definitely going to include it more often to landscape cards.

To create the clouds, you simply cut a thin small piece of plastic or acetate in the shape of a scallop. Lay the plastic down and with a sponge, lightly sponge around the trim. Move over slightly and repeat moving your way up to the top of the card stock. I absolutely LOVE the effect it gives the scene. HSS Technique Challenge #69-Paper Piecing

So apparently, I don't have a lot of negative image stamp sets, which surprised me because the first set I ever bought was 'Swell News'. That was the cutest set! And great negative images. Anyway, I went with the only set I could think to work. I know it's a "safe" card, but like I mentioned before, I really need to invest in some new sets. I made this for my 4-year olds little friend. Her birthday is next week and I know she'll love this very pink card:)

Isn't the silver paper crimped just like a cupcake wrapper? LOVE it! And I used Liquid Applique and a heat tool to make the frosting effect around the top.

HSS Challenge #68

Heellllloooo! It's been a while for a posting and I so apologize. I have been extremely busy painting our home. We bought a foreclosure at the end of last year and with that said, there were 20+ holes in the walls that my husband had to repair, so I've been painting the rooms slowly, one by one. I am going to try to get pictures taken tomorrow of the rooms I've completed and share them. I've taken a break tonight though to bring you the latest challenge from Hand Stamped Sentiments .

I am so grateful for the men and women who have served (like my father), who are currently serving (like my brother), and most importantly those who did not return home from serving for us. For this weeks card I pulled one of my FAVORITES out. This set The Free and the Brave has retired but I could never part with it because the image is so striking. I haven't seen a recent patriotic set I liked as much.

I started with a Night of Navy base. The image is stamped in Basic Black ink onto Whisper White and layered onto Real Red. I used Watercolor pencils to color the image and went over it with my Blender Pen to soften it a bit. The stars were stamped in Night of Navy ink and covered with Champagne Glass Glitter. A Real Red Grosgrain ribbon finished the card off.

HSS Color Splash Challenge #66

Yesterday was one of THOSE days. My little guy had his 6 month shots and was a little crabby to put it mildly. We had baseball practice for the 6 year old, again, ugh. Then last night I was making the card for this post, while doing laundry, and walked into the laundry room to the smell of natural gas, yikes! Luckily we don't think it's serious, but what a way to end the night.
Anyway-Wow! Did you check out the phenomenal Mother's Day entries for last weeks challenge? There are so many talented crafters out there. This week at Hand Stamped Sentiments we are challenging you to use these gorgeous colors:

This week my sons school is celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week, so I wanted to kill two birds with one stone. Make a card they could give their teacher and complete the Color Challenge.

I cased this card from Julie DiMatteo. I just bought the Subtles Patterns Designer Series Paper Stack and am LOVING it. It's an instant WOW!

I used a sheet of Certainly Celery for the bottom. The base is Crumb Cake and the flower is also a pattern from the stack in Pretty in Pink. I punched it from the Fun Flowers die and spritzed it with Stampin' Mist (a tip from Julie), scrunched it and let them dry. Then they were assembled with glue dots, Stampin' Dimensionals, and a Bashful Blue button was adhered to the top. (Tip: The Fun Flowers die is so worth it. It was on back order for a while and I just got it this week. I HIGHLY recommend purchasing it. You won't be disappointed!)

The finishing touch was to stamp the sentiment from the Bold Blossom set in Early Espresso and add a line of Basic Pearls.

This is what each of my boys' teacher's will be getting tomorrow, along with the card a bag of hugs and kisses.

The first was a mini scrapbook/brag book. I used the Paisley Petals DSP. This will be a new paper collection in the 2011-2012 Idea Book and Catalog and can be pre-ordered now through April 30 along with the Four Frames Stamp set. For more info, go here.

The reason I really wanted to make a book was because I keep seeing this neat Japanese binding technique. I finally got to try it and it was super easy and really cool. If you google it, there are tons of videos demonstrating it on YouTube.

Along with the album I created a card to go with it also using the Paisley Patterns DSP. I am really loving this paper pack!

Here's a view of the pages. I simply cut coordinating card stock to use. The size of the book is 4" x 6".

Photostory Albums Launch

This past week I was able to be a part of an incredible new company's launch. My friend April has embarked on a new adventure by starting a photo book designing company...Photostory Albums. They have some good stuff! If you are a photographer, especially, you'll want to get in touch with this creative gal ASAP. Check out her website here . For their big launch party, I made these little goodies.

The first was this pillow box with the company's logo on it. I LOVED how they turned out.

I also made these candy bags. I punched a strip of Basic Black with the Spiral Border Punch to make it appear as a film strip.

HSS Graduation Theme Challenge #64

This week at Hand Stamped Sentiments we are hosting a Theme Challenge: Graduation.

First, I created this easy Top Note box. I used Helen's instructions found here. The pennants are simply a square punched from the 1-3/8" Square Punch, and trimmed to make more of an acute triangular shape.

Here is the side view. Before I give it, I will be tying a ribbon around it for a finishing touch.

And of course, you have to fill it with some goodies. I cut strips of Love Letter Designer Paper and adhered them around a Hershey Nugget.

I also made a card to go along with the Top Note box. After creating it, I simply sponged Riding Hood Red around the edges.

HSS Easter Theme Challenge #63

Can you believe that Easter is less than two weeks away?! Time is flying by this year. With the upcoming holiday comes a new theme challenge from Hand Stamped Sentiments .

(Isn't that bunny yummy looking?!)

This week I was asked to create a card/gift set.
I came up with this basket and coordinating card collection.

I saw this basket idea from Geraldine Andrade and immediately loved it. She has the complete instructions here (if you don't read Spanish there is a Google translator button in the upper right hand corner of her page).

The sentiment was stamped in Wild Wasabi ink and then embossed with our new Wild Wasabi Emboss Powder and Versa Mark ink. There are THREE new emboss powder colors in the Summer Mini, I am so excited that they are doing coordinating emboss powder colors now, awesome! This was punched out with the large Extra Large Oval Punch and layered onto a Baja Breeze 2-3/8" Scallop Circle and 1-3/4" Blushing Bride Scallop Circle, and embellished with Basic Pearls and Pretty in Pink 3/8" Taffeta Ribbon.

The card set made to coordinate with the basket are made on Whisper White card stock. A piece of Designer Series Paper was placed on top. I cut 1-3/4" squares in Blushing Bride and then ran them through the Big Shot with the Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder. The egg image is from the set and was stamped in Baja Breeze ink. Then I used my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig to line the image up again and stamped it in Versa Mark Ink and embossed it with Iridescent Ice Emboss Powder. This was punched out with the 1-1/4' square punch. These would be perfect as tags for an Easter goodie or small gift set for a hostess.

The cards are 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" and fit perfectly into the basket opening.

HSS Color Challenge #62-Pinkalicious

This weeks Color Challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments is all about pink.

For my card I started with a Rose Red base and ran it through the Big Shot and the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder. Next, I cut a strip of Pink Pirouette card stock with the Eyelet border punch and adhered it to a piece of Very Vanilla card stock. I had previously "spritzed" the Very Vanilla piece with the Color Spritzer tool and a Regal Rose marker. I added the image from the Artistic Etchings set to the corners. (HINT: This is only a section of the actual stamp. I was able to show this section only by using my Stampin' Write marker to color in only the area I wanted. The markers allow you much more artistic freedom in these cases.) I added a Basic Pearl to the center of each.

After using the Two-Way Bird Punch to punch the bird from Rose Red card stock and the branch from Old Olive card stock, I stamped a section of a Bliss stamp image onto the bird with Very Vanilla Craft ink and embossed it with Clear Emboss Powder. I added the sentiment, also from the Bliss set, in Soft Suede classic ink and for a finishing touch added a strip of Basic Pearls below it before tying a strip of Striped Pretty In Pink Grosgrain Ribbon around the side of the card.

Hand Stamped Sentiments Technique Challenge #61-Updated

Yay, the dining room is completely painted (see previous post) and the entryway needs one more coat, but in the meantime I'm back to fill you in on the fun challenge this week at Hand Stamped Sentiments.

I have to be honest, I was a bit intimidated when I heard about this challenge and it ended up being one of the easiest and most fun cards I have ever made! I used these two great tutorials as a reference:

I really wanted to make a fun kids card. My sons are starting to go to more friends parties and they are getting scarce. I started with the Fox & Friends and Season of Friendship stamp sets. To mimic a "fall" scene, I used the colors Wild Wasabi, Daffodil Delight, Tangerine Tango, Soft Suede, Early Espresso, and Poppy Parade. I stamped the background directly onto Very Vanilla card stock. (TIP: one thing that I am obsessive, I mean particular, about is the leaves on the tree. With the help of the Stamp-A-Ma-Jig I was able to get the leaves coming off of the branches perfectly. It takes a few extra seconds, but looks so much better than leaves coming from "nowhere."

After stamping and cutting out the animal images (couldn't have done that without my handy Paper Snips!), I punched the branch out with the Two Step Bird Punch. How cute is this little guy!? Make sure you stop by and check out the FABULOUS Shadow Box cards by the other designers.

This week in sunny Southern California, well it hasn't been so sunny. It's raining and gloomy, which is even more reason to welcome the Hand Stamped Sentiments theme challenge for this week.

But before I share my card, I wanted to share this little guy. Guess who's 5 months today?

Don't you just want to eat him alive? He sure is a fun little boy to be a mommy to. I really love this little guy and can't believe how fast the time has flown by.

Now to share my card for today. I got the idea for this card from last years Idea Book & Catalog. Whenever I have a block, I turn to the former catalogs for inspiration and they never fail. This was a combination of a few cards in the book.

I started with a Melon Mambo base and stamped the floral image in Melon Mambo ink onto it. Next I added the Wild Wasabi strip of paper and folded it to mimic ribbon. I added some faux stitching along the side and bottom and added stamped and die cut flowers with the help of Stampin' Dimensionals. I forgot how much I love to do faux stitching and was happy to get to use it on this card.

The stamped images are from the Eastern Blooms set and the die cut is from the Blossom Party die. The colors used on this card were Melon Mambo, Wild Wasabi, Peach Parfait, and Baja Breeze. The sentiment, from the Apple Blossom set, was added by embossing it with White Embossing Powder and heat setting it.

HSS Inspired By Nature Inspiration Challenge #59

This weeks Hand Stamped Sentiments Challenge is to create something based on this inspirational spring photo collage. I have been wanting to try a cool technique I saw a few months back called faux tile and thought this weeks challenge would be perfect for it.

I started by stamping a Whisper White strip with images from the Simply Said set in Wild Wasabi, Pretty In Pink and Apricot Appeal inks. Next I scored the strip in 1" increments vertically and horizontally. I covered it with Versa Mark ink and applied Clear Emboss Powder to it. This was set with a heat tool. I was really happy with how it turned out. This was layered onto Pretty In Pink and Basic Black. The base is Wild Wasabi.

HSS Go for the Green Theme Challenge #58

Here's the challenge this week at Hand Stamped Sentiments ...

I typically don't send out cards for St. Patrick's Day so I was at a loss initially with this challenge, until I came across an idea from Lenice Kellams. I tweaked her card a bit and came up with this.

The simplicity of it really spoke to me and I don't use Inspired by Nature enough so I was glad to be able to pull it out. I started with a 5x5 Old Olive base. Very Vanilla was layered on top of it, which had previously been stamped with the grass image from Inspired by Nature. This was done in Crumb Cake. I didn't stamp it directly to the Very Vanilla, but used the "stamping off" technique to soften the image. The sentiment from the Sincere Salutations is stamped in Cajun Craze. I felt I'd have more luck, pun intended, if I utilized the play on words instead of creating a literal St. Patrick's card.

I made the shamrock using the same method I used on last years card (you can see it here ). This time I punched the hearts from the Big Bold Cupcakes die set in Old Olive. These were adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals and a Basic Rhinestone was placed in the center for some added bling. A piece of Old Olive Striped Grosgrain ribbon was tied around the edge of the card for the finishing touch. I LOVE this chunky ribbon! Isn't this a simple yet high impact card? So fun! HSS So Into You Color Challenge #57

This weeks challenge over at Hand Stamped Sentiments is a color challenge entitled, 'So Into You.' Take a look at these gorgeous colors making up this combo...

Can you tell I'm in love with the Big Bold Cupcakes Dies? I have been using them a lot lately and they haven't disappointed. I made a scalloped circle card a few weeks back and wanted to create a circular card for this week.

I started with a circle in Early Espresso for my card base. Next I cut a "ring" out of Poppy Parade card stock after embossing it with the Square Lattice embossing folder. (HINT: Cut the inside circle out first and then the outside. This allows for a sturdier circle and something to grip.)

For the focal point I cut the cupcake base from Pear Pizazz and stamped the sentiment from the On Your Birthday set in Early Espresso Ink. The cupcake topper was cut from Blushing Bride card stock and stamped with Blushing Bride ink and the asterisk image from the Hello Again set. Basic Pearls are applied to the centers. The candles are cut from Daffodil Delight. The base and candles are adhered directly to the card while the topper is popped up with Stampin' Dimensionals.

HSS To "DIE" For Challenge #56

Good Morning! This week over at Hand Stamped Sentiments we have a die challenge. Very clever play on words right? Here's the low down...

And here is my card...

I started with the base in Basic Black an added the layer in Very Vanilla. Both were run through the Big Shot using the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder. I added a strip of Cherry Cobbler to the bottom that had been punched with the Scallop Trim Border punch. The flower was created by cutting out 2 images from the Blossom Party die in Pumpkin Pie. I would never have thought to pair these colors with pumpkin pie, but I visited My Create Ink Color Lab and they suggested this combo. (HINT: It's a great site when you get "stuck" in regards to colors on a project.) A little Dazzling Diamonds was added with Crystal Effects to the petals for some shimmer.

The heart was punched with the Full Heart punch in Newsprint Designer Series Paper. The bird was cut from the die in Rose Red and embossed with Very Vanilla Craft ink and Clear Embossing Powder using an image from the Bliss set. A large pearl from the Pretties Kit was added to it. The sentiment was stamped in Basic Black onto Cherry Cobbler with a stamp from the Curly Cute set. Flower accents were punched with the Boho Blossom punch with black brads and basic pearls added for bling as well as 3/8" Very Vanilla Taffeta Ribbon.

A Sweet Treat and HSS Sketch Challenge #55

Good morning! I hope you had a wonderful Valentine's yesterday and are geared up for and a fun sketch challenge at Hand Stamped Sentiments . This weeks sketch was artfully mastered by our own Genevieve Valdes. Here's a look at the inspiration...

And here is the card I made...

I combined two cards found in the Stampin' Up! Idea Book and Catalog. Did you know our catalog is jam packed with great ideas as well as products? If you don't have a copy, contact me and I'll get one out to you immediately.

Here's how I put together this fun card though. I started with a 4"x4" square of Chocolate Chip and ran it through my Big Shot with the Textured Impressions Square Lattice Embossing Folder. I cut the larger scallop from the Scallop Circle #2 die in Riding Hood Red and placed a Very Vanilla circle on top of it. The cupcake is cut from the Big Bold Cupcake set. This is an adorable set and I've made other cards lately with it, you'll be seeing those in the near future:)

The heart was punched with our Heart to Heart punch and a Rhinestone from our Basic Rhinestone collection was added. (HINT: These Rhinestones come in 3 sizes and have adhesive already on them for a quick bling addition.) The sentiment is from the On Your Birthday set and was punched out with the Word Window punch.
